Punjab Police Bust Arms-Drag Nexus in Amritsar, three held

Amritsar: In an important crack on drugs and illegal weapons trafficking networks, the task force (ANTF), Punjab arrested three drug trafficers- Maninderjit Singh, Peter, and Lavjit Singh @ Raja near Shankar Dhaba on Attari Road, Amritsar.

Acting fast on a tip-off, the team posted “four PX 5 Storm Pistol, 521 G Heroin, 7 magazine and 55 live cartridges,” DGP Punjab Police in a tweet. An FIR and Arms Act PS Entf, SAS Nagar, has been registered under the intoxicating drugs and psychotropic substances (NDP) Act.

DGP also wrote, “@ANTFPUNJAB is actively pushing both forward and backward linkage to eliminate the entire network.” He further said, “@PunjabPoliceind is firmly committed to eradicating drug syndicates, seizing illegal weapons and building #nashamuktpunjab.”

Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Punjab Police recovered three packets of a drone and suspected heroin during the search operations done with the Punjab border in Taran Taran, Ferozepur and Amritsar districts.

According to an official release, a joint discovery operation on Monday caused a packet of 550.18 grams, a packet of suspected heroin from a farming ground near Mehdipur village in Taran Taran district.

Crackdown has reflected a strong enforcement coordination between BSF and Punjab Police in curbing drug trafficking across the border under the mission ‘Yudh Nasian Veerukh’, Punjab Police has carried out massive search operations, raids and awareness drives across the state. The aim of the mission is to take strict action against drugs, educate the public and motivate the youth to de-additions.

According to the police, on 87 days (27 May) of the mission, 127 drug smugglers were arrested, which were a total of 13,866 arrests in 87 days. 7 FIRs were registered, 2.2 kg of heroin, 6.6 kg opium and Rs.1.31 lakh drug money were seized. 200-plus teams with 1,300 police personnel under the leadership of 93 officers investigated 494 suspects in 442 raids. 104 persons were assured to undergo de-addition of treatment.
